Oh hey,
I hope you've had a lovely week.
The weekend before last, I was deep in my psychotherapy training, and we were exploring something pretty powerful: how growth can emerge from pain, crisis, and failure. You know, the moments that knock us flat? Yeah, those. And, how, more often than not, they can lead to the biggest breakthroughs.
Fast forward to this week and I was running a workshop for a team wrapping up a five-month leadership program. It was their final session, and they were pulling together everything they’d learned into an action plan for their next big moves. We were considering all the changes they might want to make - from their lives, roles, teams and the results they want to achieve.
And it hit me: how often do we really sit down and think, what kind of life do I actually want to live? We don’t usually get that opportunity until life throws us a curve ball, right? But what if you didn’t have to wait for a crisis to make some epic changes?
So, let me ask you this - how can you shake things up without waiting for life to do it for you? Here’s how:
1. Make time to dream a little. Yes, I’m serious. Schedule it in your calendar like it’s the most important meeting of the week, because it kind of is! Take time to ask yourself the big questions. What do I actually want? Maybe you want more joy, more freedom, more adventure. Whatever it is, permit yourself to dream about it—no crisis required.
2. Figure out how you want to feel. This is a big one. It’s not just about what you want to do, but how you want to feel. For me, moving to Bournemouth wasn’t just about a change of scenery - I wanted more peace. I wanted to feel calm and grounded, and that became my personal compass. Ask yourself: How do I want to feel, every day? Let that feeling guide your decisions, like your very own life GPS.
3. Get out of your own way Now that you’ve got some clarity, it's about really turning it into something. I don't mean to sound too abstract here but there really are so many options to build and rebuild. If you genuinely want something and are prepared to do whatever it takes, it's just about working out all of the many different options and creating a plan. Start with a really blank sheet - and ask yourself 'what if there were no barriers - what could be possible?'. More often than not, it's us that get in our own way.
4. Baby steps, people! Now that you’ve got some clarity, break your vision down into small, doable steps. No need for a full life overhaul in a week. It’s all about those bite-sized changes that actually stick.
5. Get yourself an accountability buddy. Look, we all need a cheerleader sometimes. Someone who’s going to remind you of that big vision when you’re tempted to stay cosy in your comfort zone. Whether it’s a friend, a coach, or someone who just loves to check in on your progress (in a totally non-annoying way, of course), find that person and keep them close.
So here’s the big takeaway: Don’t wait for life to throw a wrench in your plans to get the ball rolling. We all deserve the life we want and we get the life we put the energy into.
So, really, what are you waiting for?
Sending you all the positive vibes for a brilliant week.
