Situation
They had talented managers who were brilliant at what they did. The next step was helping them become just as confident leading other people.
The network wanted to build a stronger pipeline of emerging leaders: people who could step beyond being the expert, lead and empower their teams, have the conversations that matter and understand their impact across the wider business.
What we did
We created a 10-month development programme that gave emerging leaders the time, space and support to grow into the next stage of their leadership, not just learn about it.
Practical workshops were combined with 1:1 coaching and application back in the day job, moving from understanding themselves as leaders through to building high-performing teams, coaching and empowering others, managing performance and having better conversations, and leading with impact across the wider organisation.
The learning built as the programme progressed, with space between sessions to try things, reflect, come back and keep developing.
What changed
91%
engagement across a 10-month programme. And where someone couldn't make a session, the learning didn't stop. People caught up through coaching and programme buddies so the cohort could keep moving forward together.
Every area improved
across all 11 leadership capabilities measured. Including giving constructive feedback, managing team performance and accountability, handling difficult conversations, leading and motivating others, setting direction and communicating the bigger picture.
Scores are group averages from pre and post-programme surveys.
But the numbers only tell part of it.
People described feeling more confident and self-aware, with a shift from feeling they needed to have all the answers to coaching, listening and creating the conditions for other people to succeed.
What managers did differently
"The realisation that to do this doesn't mean having all the answers. It's more about coaching and supporting others to find their own answers."
"I'm becoming more intentional about listening when team members open up to me. Rather than finishing their sentences, I'm asking questions and encouraging them to share more."
"It's not about motivating. It's about providing clarity and creating the right conditions for people to shine."
"PUSH have been a true partner throughout the design and delivery of our Emerging Leaders programme."
